The 1989 Topps factory set — 792 cards from the heart of the junk-wax era, with Gary Sheffield and Randy Johnson among its rookies. The famous catch: Ken Griffey Jr.'s Topps rookie is not in this set; it lives in the separate 1989 Traded boxed set, an omission that became the most repeated trivia in modern collecting. Knowing that, an '89 factory set is still an easy set to like — a complete season of late-'80s baseball with a Hall of Fame arm and a 500-homer bat among its rookies, and no illusions about scarcity. It pairs naturally with the Traded set for the collectors who want the year whole.

KEY FEATURES

  • ☑ 792 cards; Sheffield and Randy Johnson rookies
  • ☑ The Griffey RC is in '89 Traded, not here — famously
  • ☑ A complete late-'80s season, honestly framed

Best for: Completing the '89 story (Traded set sold separately)
