A Charter AL Franchise with 125 Years of Cards
The Cleveland franchise was founded in 1901 as a charter member of the American League, played briefly as the Blues and then the Naps (after Napoleon Lajoie), became the Indians in 1915, and rebranded to the Guardians for the 2022 season. Cleveland has won two World Series titles (1920, 1948) and six American League pennants in all (Cleveland Guardians, Wikipedia), and the franchise was the first in the American League to integrate when Larry Doby debuted in 1947, eleven weeks after Jackie Robinson.
For collectors, Cleveland offers deep vintage across four Hall of Fame eras: the Lajoie-era 1900s, the Feller-Doby championship teams of the 1940s-50s, the Jim Thome / Manny Ramirez / Albert Belle 1990s contenders, and the José Ramírez / Shane Bieber current core. The catalog spans vintage issues through current Bowman Chrome, with strong representation in every decade.
This page collects what Cleveland collectors need to know across eras, plus product and budget recommendations for building a Guardians PC.
Cleveland Vintage Era (pre-1970)
- 1949 Leaf Larry Doby (#138, 1949 Leaf checklist) — a short-printed rookie. Historically significant as the first Black player in the AL, and PSA 7+ copies are genuinely scarce.
- 1949 Bowman Larry Doby (#233) — a cornerstone of any Cleveland vintage build.
- 1951 Bowman Bob Feller (#30, 1951 Bowman checklist) — clean PSA 8 examples are among the set’s strongest performers.
- 1952 Topps Bob Feller (#88, 1952 Topps checklist) — a set staple, strong demand at every grade.
- 1954 Topps Al Rosen (#15) — strong Cleveland collector demand.
- 1968 Topps Luis Tiant (#532) — pre-Red Sox Tiant in a Cleveland uniform.
Cleveland Modern Era (1970-2000)
- 1976 Topps Dennis Eckersley (#98) — his rookie, in a Cleveland uniform, and one of that set’s three key RCs with Ron Guidry and Willie Randolph (1976 Topps checklist). 1975 Topps #622 is a four-player Rookie Outfielders card. Pre-Oakland Hall of Fame card.
- 1991 Bowman Jim Thome (#68) — his Rookie Card (1991 Bowman checklist); 1991 Upper Deck #767 is Heathcliff Slocumb. PSA 10 copies are plentiful and affordable.
- 1992 Topps Kenny Lofton (#69) — an early Lofton flagship card, with a companion 1992 Topps Traded issue at #66T.
- 1993 SP Manny Ramirez (#285) — a Premier Prospects subset card; #279 in that set is the Derek Jeter rookie (1993 SP checklist).
- 1994 Bowman Albert Belle (#411) — 1990s power era.
Cleveland Contemporary Era (2001-2026)
- 2014 Bowman José Ramírez (#176) — his Rookie Card and the flagship modern Cleveland card. Ramírez’s sustained MVP-caliber career has driven steady demand, and the PSA 10 carries the real premium.
- 2014 Bowman Chrome Corey Kluber (#209) — a veteran card that ran up after his 2014 and 2017 Cy Young seasons.
- 2015 Bowman Draft Triston McKenzie (#96) — a popular Cleveland prospect pickup.
- 2016 Bowman Draft Shane Bieber (#BD-68) — the current ace’s Bowman Draft card.
- 2016 Bowman Draft Nolan Jones (#CDA-NJ, Chrome Draft Pick Autographs) — the signed card from Cleveland’s 2016 draft class.
- 2024 Bowman Draft Travis Bazzana (#BD-1, Chrome Prospect Auto at #CPA-TB) — most recent top Guardians draft capital.

The players below have their own deep-dive guides on Baseball Cards. Each player page covers the full card catalog, key rookies, parallels to chase, and buying tips.
How to Build a Guardians PC
Starter collection: Current-year Topps and Bowman hobby boxes cover the current core. Add a PSA 10 1991 Bowman Jim Thome (affordable), a raw 1952 Topps Feller in low grade, and a PSA 9 José Ramírez 2014 Bowman rookie — a focused build of 60-80 Cleveland cards with real Hall of Fame content.
Mid-tier collection: Target a PSA 8 1952 Topps Feller, a PSA 10 2014 Bowman José Ramírez rookie, and a PSA 10 1991 Bowman Thome. Sealed current-year Bowman Chrome hobby boxes round out the build.
High-end collection: A PSA 8 or 9 1951 Bowman Feller, a PSA 7 1949 Leaf Larry Doby, and a PSA 10 2014 Bowman Ramírez rookie are the three-card anchor. A 1952 Topps partial set build captures the early-1950s Cleveland roster at maximum vintage quality.

Building a Cleveland Run
For vintage team builders, the 1954 Topps run is the pennant-era target (Cleveland won the 1954 American League pennant), anchored by the Al Rosen card at #15 and built out with commons.
